Katowice Furniture Company has a rich history and tradition.

Katowice Furniture Enterprise „AGATA" Spółka Akcyjna (joint stock company) with seat in Katowice, Poland (further referred to as AGATA) in the last years of its over 60-year history achieved the position of the leader in the furniture branch at the Polish market, and is the biggest importer of furniture in Poland, as well as importer of interior furnishing items from Asia.

These products are sold both via the company's own sales network, and are subject to wholesale trade in Poland and abroad. Most suppliers deliver their products exclusively to „Agata".

Katowickie Przedsiębiorstwo Meblowe (Katowice Furniture Enterprise) Agata is the general representative of brands Red Apple and Spazio Bello for the markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

At present AGATA has:

  • 15 shops with exhibition space,
  • 2 central warehouses,
  • 1400 employees,
  • about 130 million euro of yearly revenue.

The history of AGATA began in 1952, when the enterprise „Bytomskie Fabryki Mebli" ('Bytom Furniture Factories') was established. It comprised the state factories located in Upper Silesia (Górny Śląsk).

In the 1970s a new plant was built in Katowice, there the seat of the enterprise was moved in 1973, and the name of the enterprise was changed into Katowickie Fabryki Mebli (Katowice Furniture Factories) „Agata" in Katowice. On June 8, 1994 the state enterprise became a joint stock company, with State Treasury as the sole shareholder, and changed its name into Katowickie Przedsiębiorstwo Meblowe (Katowice Furniture Enterprise) „Agata" Spółka Akcyjna (joint stock company), with seat in Katowice. At present, after the shares have been sold by the State Treasury, 100% of the shares are held by individuals.

Since its privatisation „Agata" has been focused on continuing its development by establishing large trade centres, following the example of the „Agata" centre in Katowice. Today, „Agata" runs its activities in 15 trade centres, located in: Katowice, Gliwice, Bielsko-Biała, Rybnik, Warszawa, Płock, Poznań, Wrocław, Łódź, Szczecin, Opole, Kalisz, Gdańsk, Słupsk and Wałbrzych.

Until 2007 the development concept assumed selling furniture via AGATA S.A., as well as letting trade space to other entities dealing with sales of interior furnishing items.

For the coming years, development of sales also of decoration items is planned in the shops with exhibition run by AGATA company, thus in future the revenue generated through letting of trade space will be of less importance. On the other hand, revenue from trade activities is to increase
